Activities and Sights in Cannes

There are a large number of ancient monuments and religious sites in Cannes, which are worth a visit. Tour fine examples of ancient French architectonic history at the Eglise Reformee de France and de Notre Dame! There are a great number of museums, galleries and parks to visit.

Boat trips to Iles de Lerin

Several companies offer a peaceful get away from touristy Cannes. Take a sail or motorboat to one of these beautiful and relatively wild islands. Less than half an hour boat trip away lies the smaller of the two islands, Saint-Honorat. This Island has an active monastery, a museum and an abbey. The Sea Museum is located on Sainte-Marguerite, the bigger island of the two. This unique museum is dedicated to the treasures of the sea. The story goes that the man with the Iron Mask was held imprisoned on this Island.


A Marche Brocante, French for flea market, is held every Saturday, opposite of the old port, in the shade of the trees. Cannes main market is at Forville. This big, lively and covered market is held daily. For French cheese, paté, and other local products, this market is the place to go!


Cannes offers one nice sandy beaches and a lovely sea. The beaches offer a lot of different (paid) services such as: showers, beds, parasols and lockers. Most beaches belong to hotels but are accessible for travellers.


About 8 km (5 miles) of Cannes lays the amazing Mediterranean town of Antibes Juan-les-Pins. This town has approx. 25 km (15 miles) of coastline containing creeks, escarpments, rocky areas, and fine sandy and pebble beaches. Water sports are available at the various beaches. Antibes counts 5 museums from which the Picasso museum in Chateau Grimaldi is the most important. A great deal of Picasso´s work is shown here. But also other important 20th century artists representing different art movements are in these collections.

Marine Zoo

Killer whales, dolphins and sea lions invite visitor’s everyday with their amazing shows. Discover their talent during one of the unique performances full of surprises or visit one of the huge aquariums with sharks, stingrays or multi colour tropical fish. The Naval museum, jewel of French maritime history is located in the park. It features several thousand artefacts related to the sea: model ships, instruments of navigation, works of art, etc.
