St Tropez offers a surprisingly intact old harbor area and some lovely market squares, not to mention some of the best art museums in the world.
The quality of the St Tropez museums is outstanding. The highlight is the Annonciade museum, also known as the Art Museum of St Tropez. The museum hosts works of some of the greatest painters of modern times including works of Bonnard, Matisse and Braque. The paintings display themes centered on the French Riviera and the Provence.
Another very interesting museum worth a visit is the Naval Museum, housed in the magnificent Citadel. The Citadel is a 16th century preserved fortress which soars above the port. The museum is dedicated to the old naval glory days of the town and shows many interesting maritime exhibitions.
Place aux Herbes
Place aux Herbes is the most bustling and lively market of St. Tropez. Here you can buy fresh local produce, fish, meat vegetables, fruit and flowers. Here and as a vital part of the town’s every day life, you will find locals busy with their own lives, and apart from touristy St. Tropez.
