The city of Cannes is centred around its old port, where large and fabulous yachts are docked. Overlooking the west end of the port you will find the 14th century Tour de Mt. Chevalier, ramparts and church Notre Dame de l´Espérence. Standing on the old medieval ramparts in front of the church you will see the beauty of Cannes and its surroundings. It is hard to image that this glamorous French Riveria resort once was a simple, sleepy fishing village whose visitors were monks and wealthy pilgrims who came to visit the monastery of the nearby St. Honorat Island. These days, Cannes is busy all year round and besieged by tourist in the summer, when the city is full of beautiful people flaunting the latest designer wear. Despite the city's pretensions and massive developments, Cannes is still an international city of charm and good cheer.
