The charming and elegant mountain resort of Megeve is authentic, and rich with traditions and local history. The unique natural environment of Megeve will welcome tourists during any season. The ski resort dates back to 1920's when Baronesse Noemie de Rothschild opened the first major hotel. By the 1950's Megeve was one of the most famous ski resorts in Europe and attracted many travelers to spend their vacation in this quaint village. Megeve combines small squares, narrow streets, quality restaurants with trendy shops and some of France best nightclubs.
The town is enchanting, with a well preserved medieval center. The houses and hotels are tastefully restored, which give Megeve the look of an authentic French resort unlike many other ski resorts in France. The center of the town is car-free and you can move around from one place to another in charming horse-drawn sleighs. The Megeve ski area extends to the villages St. Gervais, St. Nicolas and Combloux and all villages combined offers 226 km (140 miles) of slopes. The variety of runs suits all abilities and the resort is a delight for beginners and experienced skiers alike. Megeve is served by a modern, high-speed lift system that ensures a quick ride to the top. Although Megeve is situated at a lower elevation, there is an average of 200 cm (6 feet) of snow falling every year. When the snow fall is not sufficient to cover all the slopes, 175 snow cannons make sure you will be able to ski.
